Matthew Ho

Matthew Ho is a Legal Assistant of Karas So LLP.

He has experience across a diverse range of contentious matters, including commercial litigation, international arbitration and regulatory investigation. Regarding commercial litigation, he has previously advised clients on insolvency-related proceedings, post-M&A disputes, tax cases and employment claims. He has also worked on HKIAC-seated arbitrations with a cross-jurisdictional element. In terms of regulatory investigations, he has assisted banks with handling inquiries from the Securities and Futures Commission. 

Prior to joining the firm, Matthew worked as a trainee solicitor at an international law firm. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford with First Class Honours and completed his PCLL at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Matthew is a native speaker of English and Cantonese, and is fluent in Mandarin and German.

Representing a global investment bank in relation to proceedings where the bank was being sued for a breach of their “Quincecare” duties.

Representing a French multinational conglomerate in arbitration, litigation and winding-up proceedings against a major PRC retail company in a dispute related to the collapse of a large-scale acquisition of a PRC supermarket chain.

Representing a high net worth logistics magnate in a series of litigation and arbitration proceedings against a former business partner.

Representing a major South Korean manufacturing corporation in a tax appeal case concerning certain profits tax assessments made by the Inland Revenue Department.

International Arbitration
Representing a large PRC telecommunications company in a HKIAC-seated arbitration relating to a breach of warranty claim.

Regulatory Investigation
Representing a capital management fund in an SFC investigation into an alleged failure to comply with various customer due diligence obligations under the SFO and SFC Code of Conduct when acquiring a cryptocurrency trading platform.

Employment Disputes
Representing an investment bank in an employment dispute before the Labour Tribunal where the bank was being sued for engaging in wrongful termination and unfair dismissal.

Representing a Japanese bank by filing an injunction on its behalf against its ex-employee who was alleged to have made defamatory statements.
